On Sunday 7 June, we held our first Mindful Writing Afternoon tea, facilitated by local author Jo Gotheridge. From the moment guests arrived, there was a sense of calm and anticipation that set the tone for the afternoon. Surrounded by the unique secret tea room setting and accompanied by a delicious afternoon tea, guests were invited to slow down, settle into the moment, and make space for creativity.

Throughout the session, Jo guided guests through a series of gentle and thoughtful writing tasks designed to spark reflection and imagination. Each prompt offered an opportunity to pause, notice, and respond in their own way, whether through memories, observations, or quiet personal thoughts. What made the afternoon especially meaningful was the way these activities encouraged both individual reflection and a sense of connection. As people began to share their writing and the experiences behind it, the room filled with warmth, honesty, and encouragement.

Who knew how passionate people are about fountain pens and notebooks – have you heard of a junk journal?? Me neither, but now I do, it is a great way to keep all of those cherished memories in one place.

By the end of the afternoon, there was a strong feeling of having shared something special. The combination of wonderful food, mindful writing, and open conversation created an experience that felt nourishing in every sense. It was a chance not only to write, but also to listen, reflect, and enjoy being together in a welcoming and supportive space. The event left many feeling inspired, refreshed, and grateful for the opportunity to take part.

Keep your eyes peeled for future events held at Rachael’s Secret Tea Room
